Event Eight: London
SUE HAS CHANCE TO MAKE IT THIRD TIME LUCKY!
Sue Adams has reached her third consecutive Grand Final of the Betfred Ladies’ Poker Tour after booking her seat when the final leg of the series took place at the Western Club, London.
The Blackpool player clinched top spot in the standings for the most consistent non-winner despite a valiant bid by Shelley Postchild to snatch the Grand Final place available from that leaderboard.
Having failed to reach the final table in London, Sue had an anxious wait as Shelley, who did make it to the last 10, needed to finish sixth or better to match or beat her points total of 59.
But Shelley went out in 10th position, which meant Sue goes forward to the Grand Final at the same venue on November 21 when she will try to better her previous finishes of seventh and third.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be in the Grand Final again and I can’t believe it really, I’m so chuffed,” said Sue, who has been on the final table in four of this year’s eight heats.
“I feel I’ve played really well all year and now I’d love to follow in the footsteps of Lynne Beaumont, who topped the leaderboard in the last two years and went on to win the final both times.”
Sue was not the only player to claim a Grand Final place from the final leg as Charlotte Langton did likewise, beating the year’s biggest field of 102 players to become the ninth lady to secure a seat.
Charlotte, from Surrey, got heads-up with Lee-Anne Ball and despite having trailed on the chip count when it came down to the two of them, she fought her way ahead and sealed victory when she hit a 10 on the flop after going all in with A-10.
As well as Sue and Charlotte, the other confirmed finalists are Emily Curzon (Sidcup), Mel Lofthouse (Rotherham), Kim Jagger (Stoke-on-Trent), Helen Firth (Yorkshire), Alyson Chadwick (Chorley) and Birmingham duo Michelle Bricknell and Kelly Jackson.
The remaining seat will be filled by the winner of an online satellite tournament on November 15 between the 24 players who earned 30 points or more on the leaderboard. They include Shelley Postchild and last year’s Grand Final winner and runner-up, Lynne Beaumont and Christine Evans.
