Event Seven: Birmingham

The seventh leg of the 2008 Betfred Ladies Poker Tour got underway at approximately 15:30pm on the 11th October 2008. 76 players lined up all with the shared goal of reaching the grand final in London on 22nd November 2008 and a share in the £8600 prize pool.

During the first 20 minutes of the day 2 players were eliminated, the first to go was Gaenor Jenkins who was taken out by Maria Hewitt.

 

Also disaster on table 1 when Liz Pearce flopped the nut straight to Anne Scrambler's 2 pair. All the money goes in and Anne makes a full house on the river. Also to prove Aces don’t just get cracked on the internet, S Javadi min raises with AA and is called in the BB by Pheerada Cartwright with Q8, the flop comes Q 8 6 and all the money goes in, no help on the turn and river and 3 players are eliminated within the first 30 minutes! By the way players started with a  6000 stack with a 30 minute clock.

 

 

The first two hours played saw the field whittled down to 52 players, the chip leader being Lynne Beaumont the BLPT 2007 Champion, with well known pro Lucy Rokach sitting nicely with just over 19,000 chips

It doesn’t take long to lose our next player just after play started again Hazel Birchnall was eliminated, on a board of 10s As 8s, Hazel pushes all in with Kh 8d and is called by Pheerada Cartwright with Ah 9s.

Pheerada hits the flush!!

With the blinds up to 300/600 the small stacks were started to get busy, Charlotte McKay pushes all in for 1.6k with 9 9 and is called by T Hawkes with A K.

And so we lose Charlotte on a coin flip

Table 8 suddenly wakes up and we get action!

Vicki McKay is all in with A 6, Angela Herrington is all in with A J and Leslie Cope called with K 9.

Over on another table the defending champion gets a little lucky, after flat calling the BB with two snowmen (88), Ratsamee raised it up to 2k with 9 9, which Lynne called.

 

The flop comes 8,8,10 ratsamee moves all in and it’s a quick call by lynne and she has eliminated another player

Out in 10th place is Susan Adams. Sue went all in short stacked with K J and Carla on the BB called her with 8 8. The board came 7 6 4 4 Q. Nothing to help Sue and so Carla's 8's hold up! Down to 9

 

At approximately 23:00 Gladys Jarvis moves all in with JQ Hearts and is called by Elizabeth Costa with 88. The flop came 7c6h2s.....turn 9c & the river came Kds.

 

Elizabeth doubles up! Gladys has now been crippled!!

 

Gladys moves all in with Q4 suited on BB.. She is called & is dominated by KQ....

 

No help for Gladys and sadly she departs in 9th.

It was a very good final table with the 2007 champion, Anne Scrambler who won the Stoke leg and Linda Blundell who managed to take 2nd at the very first event in Newcastle.

Kate Langshaw raises to 10k and Debbie Fox on the BB moves all in. Kate then calls.

Kate Langshaw limps with 4k and Tracey pushes all in with 29k.

 

Kate then calls the extra 25k and shows Q Q. Tracey has 7 7.

Tracey leaves us in 8th place taking home £260.

Kate Langshaw raises to 10k, which is called by th BB Anne.

Both players check.

Anne bets out 8k and Kate re-raises 40k, which covers Anne who goes all in.

Anne shows 10 6 for a Q high straight but Kate shows K 10 for the K high straight.

Anne takes home her prize money of £430.

Linda Blundell raises 12k and Andrea goes all in for 28k, which Linda calls.

Raine hits a straight sending Catriona out in 5th place.

Catriona takes home £600.

Raine Hilson raised 16k and Kate went all in with 30k, Raine thought and then called.

As the time was ticking away we finally saw an end to this epic heads up.

Linda screams with joy and collects her £2480 and her bottle of pink champagne plus a seat in the Grand Final.
