Event Two: Liverpool

The second leg of the 2008 Betfred Ladies Poker tour took us to Liverpool and an excellent venue in The Circus Casino. The action got underway at approximately 15:30 with a total of 51 players vying for a share in the £6,100 prizepool and a seat in the BLPT final in London on 22nd November 2008.

 

The prize money for the Liverpool leg stood at £6100 (inc. £1000 added by Betfred Poker).

Ten minutes into the tournament and we had our first casualty, Anna Scambler went all in with A 7 after seeing a flop of A 4 10, and was called by Lesley Devine with A K.

Lesley Divine takes it with her A K and Anna Scambler is donated a buy in to another BLPT event of her choice as a consolation prize for being first out!

 

We are a quickly down to 5 ten seater tables as 50 remain.

 

After a 3rd place at Newcastle, Linda Blundell left the tournament at an early stage. Linda had a frustrating afternoon of play and finally pushed all in with A Q and ran into A K. No Q came and Linda was out. She was still smiling and was left to cheer on her daughter Rhianne who was still going strong.

 

Just before the break we lost Ratsamee Mayall. She moved all in for 6k after an initial raise pre flop of 1200 by Sally Smerton. Ratsmee turned over A K spades and Sally J J. The board came 5 6 10 9 6 & we had to say goodbye to Ratsamee.

Quickly after the restart we lost Rachel Howard and Catherine O’Brien followed shortly afterwards by Donna Franz. Donna called all in with A 9 and was called by Monica Martinsen with K K and Carla Goddard As Kd.

The turn completed Carla’s flush sending Donna on her way back to sunny Marbella and Carla, who was low stacked at the break right back in it with approximately 9.5k.

Shortly after this action last years Tour winner Lynn Beaumont doubled up. She was put all in by Becky Neilson who had J J. Lynne called with A K.

Giving Lynne two-pair and a very playable stack.

28 players remained at approximately 19:30, so a long night lay ahead for the players.

Just before the second break Sebriah Lunn doubled up. Sally Smerden had As 10s and raised 2k, and so Sebriah goes all in with 7 7 pre flop and Sally called:

So Sebriah doubles up!

Shortly after her double up we lost Sebriah Lunn. She went all in after Rhianne Blundell raised to 4k and Sebriah went over the top all in...the girls turned their cards Sebriah showing JJ & Rhianne showed AK....no help on the flop for Rhianne but an Ace on the turn brought a wide smile to her face and the river confirmed Sebriah's fate when a 2 hit. By 21:00 we were down to 15 players with the average stack at 20,400 with the blinds at 600/1200. The ladies took a short break and jumped at the chance to pose for a few photographs:

 

 

 

At approximately 21:50 Last years BLPT Winner Lynne Beaumont was knocked out.
Lynne was very short stacked after having her K K busted by Becky Neilsons A A a few hands previous. Lynne pushed all in on her BB with K 9os, she was immediately called again by Becky again who was holding A 10.

This left Becky with a huge chip lead of approximately 60k, almost double any of the remaining players.

 

We were fast approaching the bubble and it was Dawn Allen who was the unlucky one. She moved all in pre flop with A 8 and was called by Hazel Birchnall who turned over A 10.

So last years' finalist was out on the bubble took home a bottle of champagne as consolation!

Action at the final table

 

At 12:00am we lost our first player on the final table. Dee Mavor pushed all in on the BB with J J and was called by short stacked Monica Martinsen with J 9.

Dee gets a full house and Monica goes home in 10th place with £105.

 

We lose another player shortly after when Pheeiada Cartwright moves all in with Q Q ...Dee Maver also goes all in and is called by big stack Karen Dennett.....

Dee turns over K K & Karen A K.

Flop came down A 3 9 turn...5 & Q river....

Pheeiada triples up, Dee is out & Karen takes a small side pot.

 

New player to the BFLP Samantha Smith was out in 8th place and was very unlucky. Sam went all in with her 10 2 after seeing a flop of 10h 10 3h and was called by Kim Ploszanski who was holding Jh Qh.

Kim takes the pot with a straight and Sam takes home £185.

 

Kim Ploszanski was the next casualty…………

 

Karen Dennett raises 9k, Pheeiada Cartwright goes all in with 32.5k and Kim Ploszanski also moves all in with her 11.5k.

Karen thinks about it and announces to call.

The cards are turned, Kim shows Ac 8c, Karen shows 10 10 and Pheeiada shows A A.

And so we lose Kim Ploszanski who takes home £245 for her 7th place finish.

 

Rhianne Blundell hits a streak and takes out two players in succession………

Marcella Cassisi moved all in and was called by Rhianne Blundell. Marcella shows 8 8 and Rhianne K K.

Board comes 3 2 Q 2 K

Rhianne's full house send Marcella home in 6th place with £305.

 

 

Rhianne's next victim was Hazel Birchnall………..

 

Hazel Birchnall raised with A K and Rhianne Blundell set Hazel all in with A A.

Rhianne hits a full house and Hazel takes home £425 for leaving in 5th place.

 

The final four players went for a break at approximately 02:00am and the chip count was as follows:

First out after the break was Rebekah Neilson….

 

Rebekah moved all in when short stacked with A 8 and is called by Karen Dennett holding A 9.

Board came Q 9 4 10 K.

Karen wins with a pair of 9's and Becky leaves us in 4th place taking home a cool £730.

 

In her first major poker event Rhianne Blundell finishes in 3rd place.

Karen Dennett raises 1200 with Q Q and Rhianne calls with Q J.

Flop came J 10 8 and Rhianne moves all in and Karen calls.

Karen's hand stands and the BLPT rookie leaves the tournament with £915.

 

At approximately 02:50am the final hand was played and the winner of the BLPT Liverpool leg was crowned…..

Pheeiada Cartwright calls with A J, Karen Dennett checks with J 10.

Flop comes 9 J 10

Karen bets 10k, and Pheeiada moves all in and is called by Karen.

Karen wins the event with a full house and is presented with her Betfred Trophy, a bottle of pink champagne, £1835 and most importantly a place in the £5000 ADDED Grand Final were she will have the opportunity to win a sponsorship package worth £20,000.

 

 

Congratulations to Karen who was a deserved winner and a big thank you to all those who took part to make what was an excellent event. We look forward to seeing all of you and more in Reading on June 21st 2008.
