Lynne Beaumonts Progress so far ....

Early in May I played in the European Ladies’ Championships in London – managing to get a seat at the last minute thanks to some kind intervention I think by MartyWilson!  As I got deep last year in this event, I had been looking forward to doing well this year.  However, unfortunately I ran AQo into a short stack with KK, followed shortly by AKo into AA!!  Not this time…   

Before going to Las Vegas at the end of May/early June I got deep and into the money at the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour event in my adopted home town of Newcastle so that was promising, which together with some good online results gave me a bankroll and confidence to hit Vegas!! 

If you haven’t been, you simply MUST GO!!  It is the most exciting place in the world for poker players, and it never ceases to amaze me how many times you bump into people you know from the other side of the Atlantic. 

I started well, placing 8th in one of the Deep Stack Extravaganza tourneys in The Venetian out of about 330 players for nearly $3,000, and won a satellite for the $1,000 Ladies WSOP event and Golden Nugget $330 Ladies event out of 212 players. 

Unfortunately, the WSOP Ladies $1,000 buys you only 2,000 in chips and so if you can’t find a hand to double up with in the first two levels means you are short stacked at the start of level 3!!!  … and the best I could come up with was a pair of nines.  This meant that I was struggling and nothing better turned up so I was out pretty quickly which was disappointing.  But I felt that I played well during my time in Vegas and can’t wait to go back. 

The best value in Vegas really is to be found at The Venetian, Golden Nugget and Caesar’s Palace at this time, where you get plenty of chips to play with and a good, long clock!  The WSOP events don’t give you much play unless you get chips early.

My fiancé, James Browning did better than me in Vegas, winning the Binions $540 freezeout out of 112 players $14k, and placing 3rd in The Venetian $540 for another $14k!!!

So back home, and I am looking forward to the Gala Tour £500 and side events in Bristol this week.
